Masha Chernaya / Georgia, Germany / 2024 / 89 min
After the invasion of Ucraine by the Russian army, in the spring of 2022, Masha, a
young artist from Moscow, is preparing to leave Russia, but in the meantime, her
mother dies of cancer, and her perspective on life changes.
Is a deeply personal film, but Masha somehow makes you feel and perceive everything on an emotional, almost visceral level, without needing explanations or context. She explores space in all directions—walls, ruins, streets, people, events—examines her relationship with her boyfriend who is avoiding military conscription, the drama of her mother dying of cancer, the disagreements she has with her father regarding politics and society in Russia, and offers you the chance to look, through her camera lens, into the heart of a contradictory world.
