In an apparently sustainable Europe, more than half of the wool produced is destroyed, while synthetic fibres dominate the market. The film documents wool’s place in the European economy and culture.
Over the course of a year, the film follows the work of two shepherds and traces the journey of wool, from the flock and shearing to its use or abandonment. Fourteen interviews conducted across 11 countries offer perspectives on production, the market, and the traditions surrounding this material. The film explores the connection between sheep farming, grazing, landscapes, and biodiversity, as well as the changes brought about by the expansion of synthetic fibres and their impact on producers and the environment.
