When the expatriated Buica family flies from the U.S. to their native Romania in 1998, Mrs. Buica playfully and at times viciously attacks her explosive and cancer stricken husband. Eugene captures his parents’ dysfunction as their marriage falls apart. In 2000 Eugene shoots proper interviews of his parents in New York City. Mrs. Buica charms and manipulates, presenting a reality that includes the feeble Mr. Buica climbing in through the plastered shut windows of her apartment. In the end, Eugene tries to rescue his ailing mother who has moved back to Romania. Mrs. Buica refuses, asking Eugene to remember her by the footage he captured.
