THE EXPORTED: THE DARK TRADE OF THE COLD WAR

 Through archival documents, testimonies and rare materials, the film reconstructs the mechanism by which the authorities negotiated the emigration of Jewish and Transylvanian Saxon citizens in exchange for economic and political benefits, from breeding animals and agricultural equipment to payments in foreign currency. Following the story of businessman Henry Jakober, an intermediary in these agreements, and of those caught up within this system, the film reveals a story of power, negotiation and the price of freedom under a totalitarian regime.
