Karin Pennanen / Finland, Denmark, Norway / 2025 / 88 min
Karin reconstructs the life of her late uncle from the art and recordings he left behind. Through his thoughts on filmmaking, Markku becomes the film’s posthumous co-author.
Visual artist and composer Markku spent his final years in solitude, leaving behind drawings, music, films, audio diaries and reflections on how documentaries are made. Karin Pennanen uses these fragments to reconstruct his life, but Markku is more than the film’s subject. His voice, images and ideas help determine its form, turning the portrait into a collaboration between niece and uncle that continues after his death.
